Unity Platformer Class Project

Role: Game Designer
This 2D platformer was part of a three week Unity project. My team and I created a rage inducing game using scrum and agile. The player takes the role of an unpaid intern who is trying to make a coffee run to their boss. There are many obstacles on the way there that will either cool or spill the coffee. On top of that, there are some unique controls that add challenge to our game.
My Process
This project consisted of a team that included programmers, artists, sound designers, and game designers. During this project, we were allowed to create anything we wanted, but were recommended to keep it simple and along the lines of a platformer. So our team wanted to make a rage inducing platformer game.

I helped design the obstacles and interactions the player interacted with. One of the ideas I created was the player going back to the coffee machine each time they failed going up the office building. This was to enforce the rage inducing part because the player would have to start over. I also helped created the unique control scheme we used for the game. We wanted to simulate the player holding a coffee and struggling to make their way to their boss's office on the top floor.

Intern Simulator was a good way of learning the Agile & Scrum process and helped improve my communication skills among other disciplines. We also had many people play this game, and all of which enjoyed it and were very engaged with the game.

My Role
I was one of the designers on our team and I created the level, some of the major systems and mechanics, and helped with the producer work. There was documentation that went along with that.

Controls
To add to the challenge of our game, we made the move buttons F & J, SPACE for jump, the RMB & LMB to hold the coffee, and the MMB to interact with objects.

Obstacles
There are many different obstacles that will either cool off or spill the coffee. Some obstacles may slow the player down like the passcode on the boss's door.
The Goal
The player's goal is to give the boss their coffee. We added a funny ending to the game to promote a little humor for the player. There are two different endings based on if you have coffee or not when you reach the boss.
